Sailor Free

Sailor Free is an Italian art rock progressive band, that was originally formed in 1991.
== History ==
Sailor Free started in 1991 in Rome, by four musicians from the 1980s local rock scene: drummer Stefano Toni, bassist Alfonso Nini, guitarist Stefano Barelli and David Petrosino, composer, singer and keyboard player. Two of them were former members of the band "Lunar Sex".〔(Lunar Sex - Lunar Sex ), retrieved 29 December 2012〕
In 1992 Sailor Free released their first album, titled “Sailor Free”, for the Italian label Tide Records, distributed by Flying Records, and made a tour throughout Italy.〔Sailor Free, (Rassegna Stampa 1991 – 1993 ), retrieved 29 December 2012〕
In 1994 Sailor Free's second album was released, entitled “The fifth door”, for The Labyrinth, Laser’s Edge's label, in the United States. The album gained attention from both audience and from critics,〔Sailor Free, (Press Review Rassegna Stampa 1994 - 2010 ), retrieved 29 December 2012〕 and the band toured Italy and Europe.
In 1996 the band members took a break and worked on individual projects.
The Sailor Free CD “The fifth door” was re-released in 2004 and the band's unique style found an ongoing market.
In 2010 Sailor Free reformed and produced a video titled “A dream of cans” featuring the song Daeron, the first single from their forthcoming album at that time. The video became an official selection at the 2011 Lenola Film Festival.
In 2012 Sailor Free released a new CD, a concept-album, entitled "Spiritual Revolution (part 1)". The album is inspired by J.R.R.Tolkien's “Silmarillion”, but related in concept to the Spiritual Revolution People movement. In reviewing the album G. W. Hill said "The mix of progressive rock sounds here is quite diverse. At times I hear Pink Floyd, at other points King Crimson. Still other sections are quite spacey. All in all, it works to create an effective album."〔 Music Waves described the album as pleasant but without much inspiration, saying that the musicians did their job but without great virtuosity.〔 Donato Zoppo of Movimenti Prog called it "un album ambizioso e complesso" ("a complex and ambitious album").〔
